Marseille is plotting a move to sign Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud this summer.

The French side is willing to pay £20 million to secure Giroud’s services after identifying the French forward as its top priority heading into the summer transfer window, according to Kaveh Solhekol of Sky Sports.

Convincing Arsenal to sell the 30-year-old could be difficult considering that Giroud is fresh off signing a new three-year contract.

However, Sky Sports suggests that a return to his home country could convince Giroud to accelerate a departure from north London and end his five-year association with the Gunners.

Since his arrival from Montpellier for £12 million in 2012, Giroud has registered 95 goals, along with helping Arsenal capture a pair of FA Cup titles. This season, Giroud has served primarily as a backup to Alexis Sanchez after starting just eight of the 23 league matches he’s appeared in this term.

A potential move to Marseille would mark the second lucrative transfer between the Ligue 1 outfit and a Premier League club following the £25-million capture of Dimitri Payet in January from West Ham.
