Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that he was unaware that Kylian Mbappe would reject Real Madrid and extend his contract with Paris Saint-Germain until half an hour before it became official.

The Argentine coach also claimed that no PSG player has been informed by Mbappe, except for his close friend and former Real Madrid player Achraf Hakim.

“I was not surprised by Mbappe’s decision,” Pochettino told Spanish radio station El Partidazo de COPE.

“We were sure he had not made the decision and that it would be at the last minute. The entire PSG locker room heard Mbappe’s decision half an hour ago. Only Achraf Hakimi knew in advance. I officially heard about Mbappe’s renewal half an hour ago. Even being next to him we did not know the final decision. The president told me,” Pochettino said.

Further, he said that for Real Madrid it is disappointed that they failed to transfer the French striker.

“Obviously, it is a disappointment for Real Madrid not to have signed with Mbappe. I will not give my opinion. Decisions are decisions. For the club, the people, the French league, it is something that will benefit everyone,” he concluded.
