Martinez hints that he would like to see Lukaku leave Chelsea

Belgium national team coach Roberto Martinez has hinted that he would like to see Romelu Lukaku leave Chelsea.

While Martinez said he had no idea Lukaku wanted to leave the Blues, he agreed that he was one of the Belgian stars who could consider his future over the summer.

“We are talking about players like Romelu, who have made over 100 appearances and are part of this group of players who know the national team inside,” Martinez said initially.

“I will not judge or assess the condition of any player until after the summer, because it is not a normal situation. They still have seven months until the World Cup and will surely go into detail about how a player feels when he gets closer to them than now.”

“But there will be a lot of players changing clubs or feeling different in the summer. Romelu should be judged on how he feels in September, in the same way as Eden Hazard and some others.”

“But he is one of the players for whom summer can be a great moment in his career.”

This suggested that Martinez is aware of Lukaku’s concern.

“We always talk. I have a very close relationship with all my players. “I would never tell a player what to do, but we always share opinions.”

“At the moment Romelu is in a good place. He is very dedicated. He was delighted to have won the Club World Cup and the next step is to end the season strongly with Chelsea and make sure he can feel very important.”
