Mario Gotze says a move to the Premier League pulls him back as he hopes to achieve his dream of winning the Champions League.
The PSV star has renewed his career in the Netherlands since moving to Eindhoven in 2020 after a difficult period at Borussia Dortmund.
Gotze’s contract with PSV runs until 2024, but the attacking midfielder is already watching his next move.
Gotze told Sports Illustrated: “I have always done my mission that I really want to win the Champions League.”
“It would be something I would still like to achieve. I want to, I should not. I think the competition is just extraordinary.”
“Now I have taken the step from the Bundesliga to the Netherlands to see and experience something new. I only knew the Bundesliga, in which I played for 10 years. However, with my aforementioned goal, I want to play at the highest level in Europe, preferably in Italy or Spain.
“The Premier League with its balanced competition also attracts me,” he added.
Gotze has joined German coach Roger Schmidt at PSV, but the 55-year-old will leave the club at the end of the season.
The 29-year-old striker may choose to follow him as he seeks to continue his career under the right coach.
