Barcelona owe Gerard Piques € 50 million in salary, despite reportedly concluding deals for two new players this summer.

The Catalan club reportedly owes banks millions for unpaid debts and their overall spending was reduced to a negative figure by La Liga, meaning they can not register new players until they balance reserves.

It’s part of the same set of economic issues that saw club legend Lionel Messi leave on a free transfer against his will last summer, as the club could not afford to offer him a new deal.

And the La Liga giants seem to have not learned from their mistakes despite owing millions to veteran defender Pique, according to journalist Gerard Romero.

The center-back is not believed to be making a fuss over the issue, but the situation shows the scale of the mess in which Barcelona is located.

However, the financial turmoil has not prevented them from lowering their expectations in the transfer market.
