Poland striker Robert Lewandowiski has made two demands for the renewal of his contract with Bayern Munich: A new two-year contract until 2025 and an increase in his current salary, which according to unofficial figures amounts to 24 million euros per year.
Bayern traditionally give players over the age of 30 only a one-year contract – the same is on the table for Manuel Neuer and Thomas Muller – but it looks like they would be willing to make an exception at this point.
On the other hand, his salary is a potentially more controversial area. Lewandowski, who is 33 years old, is already Bayern’s highest paid player and a significant increase in his salary could have an impact on the demands of other players.
Bayern are in the habit of not crossing certain boundaries in wage negotiations even if it means letting a player go, as was the case with David Alaba.
Lewandowski’s contract runs until the summer of 2023 and Bayern’s official position is that the player will stay at the club at least until the end of next season.
