Tuchel: Heavy loss, we can be hit the same at the Bernabeu

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has warned his players they could face disaster in Madrid in their second Champions League quarter-final match.

The Blues were beaten by Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge in the first leg against French superstar Karim Benzema, who scored a hat-trick in London.

Benzema’s first two goals came from brilliant action shares from Carlo Ancelotti’s team, but the third was a gift from goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

Despite Kai Havertz’s goal, Chelsea ended up losing 3-1, and they now face a big task in Madrid next week.

Los Blancos’s experience shone in the second half and Tuchel claimed that things could get worse if his team did not react.

“It is a heavy loss. It was one of the worst parts I saw of us at Stamford Bridge,” Tuchel told BT Sport after the game.

“Individually and as a team it was not enough. It was far from our standards and so you lose matches. You can always come back and win it, but when you kill the game yourself after 45 minutes, it gets harder and harder.”

“If we continue to play like this, we will lose at Southampton and then they will hit us at the Bernabeu,” concluded the German of Chelsea.

Chelsea return to the Premier League home games against Saints this weekend before traveling to face Real Madrid on April 12.
