English club Liverpool are reportedly preparing to break their transfer record to sign Benfica’s highly regarded striker Darius Nunez.
According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool is prepared to spend up to 85 million pounds or 100 million euros for the Uruguayan, who has also been linked with clubs such as Manchester United and Atletico Madrid.
If Liverpool were to pay that figure, it would be a new club transfer record.
Nunez’s transfer would beat the 75 million fee or around 88 million that the Reds pay Southampton for Virgil van Dijk in 2018.
Liverpool’s new sporting director, Julian Ward, has already entered into negotiations with Benfica to sign Nunez and the 22-year-old reportedly wants to move to Anfield.
Nunez, who can play on the left side of the attack as well as in the center, scored 34 goals in 41 games last season, including two against Liverpool in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp was also impressed by the striker, praising him highly after the games against them.
