Roma puts Zaniolo up for sale

Sky Sport Italia reports that Roma have decided to sell Nicolò Zaniolo for 50 million euros and he is refusing a move to the Premier League, preferring Milan or Juventus.

Zaniolo turns 23 next month and has a contract until June 2024, leaving his mark this season with eight goals and nine assists in 42 official matches.

That includes scoring in the Europa League final against Feyenoord, which gave Roma their first trophy in more than a decade.

There have been many months speculating that Zaniolo would be the player sacrificed to raise funds and strengthen the rest of the squad in the image of coach Jose Mourinho.

Now Sky Sport Italia insists the decision has been made and they are waiting for formal offers in the 50m-euro region.

However, while a sale in the Premier League would be ideal for Roma, the same report says Zaniolo is resisting all proposals from England, especially Newcastle United.

He is aiming for a Champions League club, so the only real alternatives are Milan and Juventus.

There have been numerous reports that Milan boss Paolo Maldini has pointed out Zaniolo as an ideal reinforcement for the Scudetto winners, seeing a € 25 million bid plus Alexis Saelemaekers rejected.

Inter sold Zaniolo to Roma in 2018 for 4.5 million euros as part of Radja Nainggolan’s exchange deal, before he played a single Serie A match.

As part of this deal, Giallorossi owes Inter a 15 per cent reduction in its sale amount, so the Nerazzurri will benefit from the sale regardless.
